Repeat Prescriptions

Order a repeat prescription by -

• using the NHS Wales app
• Use eConsult
• bring your request to the surgery  (Download a prescription request form)
• or order at a pharmacy

We cannot accept repeat prescription requests over the telephone or by e-mail.

Remember to give us 48 hours notice for collection of your prescription from the practice and 72 hours notice for collection from a pharmacy. 
Please remember that acute requests take longer than 48 hours as they must be authorised by a doctor before they can be issued. You may be required to have a review before these items are prescribed further.

Do you need to come to the surgery to collection your prescription?

Speak to our repeat prescribing clerks or your clinician about us arranging for your prescription to go directly to the pharmacy of your choice -

Medication Reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to see / speak with a doctor, practice pharmacist or pharmacy technician to review these regular medications and notification should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions.

Changing your usual Pharmacy

If you are changing Pharmacies please let us know so that we can update your Pharmacy Preference on our system.

When ordering your first prescription to go to your new chosen pharmacy please ensure to provide us with a written request of what medication is required - this can be in the form of a hand written request with your patient details together with a list of the medication you require or you can send us a printed copy of your medication from your Pharmacy. Failure to do this will result in your prescription not being processed.

Shared care with private providers in Wales

Shared Care with private providers does not exist in Wales.

Any patient who is seen under the care of a private provider will need to be referred to the corresponding NHS service to receive NHS care.  GP surgeries can only start prescribing when care is accepted by the NHS service. Patients will need to pay for private prescriptions, blood tests and any other services relating to their private consultations, and arrange them via their private consultant until the NHS can take over care. 

Practices may be able to offer private blood test, however it is not guaranteed.

Private prescriptions

There are some medications which we are unable to continue prescribing in primary care if they have been started by a private provider.

We have taken advice from the Health Board’s Deputy Medical Director regarding this and they have confirmed that anyone who is seen privately and is requesting on-going prescriptions will need to be referred to the NHS service.  We can only start prescribing when care is accepted by the NHS service.  There is consideration being given by Welsh Government to private shared care for some conditions, but it will be some time before we know whether this is going to be permitted. 

Patients will need to continue to pay for private prescriptions until the NHS can take over care. This may be from home if you are an international student or from a private provider in the UK.
